Katie O’Gara is the Natural Carbon Capture Lead for the Climate and Land Use Alliance. Katie has focused her career on approaches to inclusively and equitably incentivize the implementation of nature-based solutions for climate change mitigation.
Before joining CLUA, Katie was a Natural Resources Management Specialist at the World Bank, overseeing the implementation of government-led climate change and environment programs in Latin America and the Caribbean. Prior to that, she led the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) and the BioCarbon Fund’s work on benefit sharing and program quality assurance. As part of her work at the World Bank, she also supported the development of Indonesia’s FCPF and BioCarbon Fund emission reduction programs and benefit sharing arrangements.
Katie has a BA in Environmental Studies from Villanova University and an MS in Natural Resources and the Environment from the University of Michigan, where she conducted research in Tanzania on community-based forest governance, incentives for environmental services from forests to benefit vulnerable communities, REDD+, and FSC. Prior to her MS, she worked at EcoLogic Development Fund, a non-profit focused on the intersection of environmental conservation and economic development in Latin America.
